Pre-ETS, or Pre-Employment Transition Services, is a program for high school aged students with disabilities (ages 14-21.5). The program helps youth prepare for future employment and post-secondary education. The program goal is to improve long-term employment outcomes by developing post-secondary transition skills and supporting student readiness and development through counseling and training. Favor Academy of Excellence, Inc. is an independent vocational and educational service provider for the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency. MY TIME TO SHINE is a guided journal and workbook series that serves as the foundation of our Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS). This curriculum is designed to holistically prepare students with diverse learning abilities for success in post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.
Through engaging stories and structured lessons, the curriculum guides students in mastering the skills required for the working world and further education. Students build foundational workplace readiness skills—including communication, time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving strategies—that are necessary to succeed in future work-based learning experiences like job shadowing or internships.
The lessons incorporate job exploration counseling by using relevant characters and narratives to introduce students to different career interests, necessary job skills, and opportunities available in the community. Furthermore, the journal is an active guide for counseling on postsecondary education opportunities, helping students plan and reflect on options like college, vocational training, or other programs. Critically, the program prioritizes instruction in self-advocacy, helping students understand their rights and communicate their needs effectively in both academic and workplace settings.
Eligibility: Students must be between 14 and 21/22 years old, enrolled in a secondary or postsecondary program, and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP), 504 plan, or other documentation of a disability. Program participants are referred to Favor Academy of Excellence through the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency. A self-referral may also be possible.
If you are interested in the participating in the Pre-ETS program and have a disability, you may be eligible for vocational rehabilitation services. Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) can assist with your VR application.
